About Yuliyan Yordanov
Yuliyan Yordanov grew up in Doyrentsi,
a village in the Lovech region
of north-central Bulgaria,
and learned dancing and singing from a young age.
A graduate of the renowned
Plovdiv Academy of Folk Arts,
he has worked professionally as a dance director, instructor
and choreographer since 1993.
He and his students have participated
in events throughout Bulgaria
and in 1997 he was honored
with an invitation from the president of Bulgaria
to the annual party for those with
notable achievements in education and culture.
Since coming to the US he has
taught at dozens of events
including the Chicago Balkan festival
and dance camps from West Virginia
to California.
In Milwaukee he has been choreographer and
artistic director for the "Na Lesa"
dance ensemble.
He also served for two years as artistic director
of the "St. Sava Junior Dancers" at the Serbian Cultural Center.
And he has choreographed Bulgarian suites
for the Narodno Dancers in Madison, Wisconsin.
After a recent move
he is now based in New York city.
